David Mitchell will be at Skylight Books tonight. 7pm. If you have ever been to this venue, you know there are not a lot of seats. Get there early is not only wise, but imperative. Cautionary, even. As in -- not just 6:30pmish early. Or even 6pmish early. More like, well...5ish. 5:30 if you feel like pushing your luck a bit.
So. Let's see. It is 6.4 miles from my house to Skylight Books. Mapquest reckons it should take me 10 minutes. Factor in LA traffic at rush hour, the complete lack of any organized street grid or freeway system that would allow one to easily take side streets to arrive at a destination only 6.4 miles away, allow for "find a parking space" time which often takes longer than the trip iteself, then add in a dash of upturn entire contents of purse to find adequate change for said parking space time and it is looking like I need to leave...abbbboouuuttttt...now. Wish me luck & Swans and Atlases of Clouds and all that.
*You will note that I have posted this late in the day, which may lead one to assume that this is a last-minute switch in the schedule, something to fill the gaping hole that just opened up in my otherwise overcrowded with meetings calendar. Not so. Not so my dear readers. I have posted this late in the day (she's shrewd, she's calculating) to increase odds in my favor. I've been planning to attend this reading for a very long time and on the off chance that any of you are in the area and were unaware of this event, I had no intention of tipping you off early in case you get there before I do and take the last coveted seat. So there you have it. Not so nice after all am I? Let's just say this: I hope to see you there but only if you are behind me in line and/or I've already secured a seat!
