During a flurry of activity on Sunday afternoon (which would eventually devolve into a very long LAist party in which too much cheap champagne was consumed but the conversations were so good it didn't matter), I had the pleasure of almost running into a curb whilst listening to David Rakoff on This American Life.
He was part of the Poultry Slam 07 program and I must say that I loved, loved, loved every sentence that came out of his mouth. He was so funny I nearly crashed. His painfully honest descriptions of being a young, promising Socialist and how it all went to hell after one night in a chicken coop are just...yum. He's nearly always yum on This American Life.
After narrowly avoiding the curb, I took a moment to collect myself. To re-focus so I could drive. Once sorted, I wondered: Why the hell have I not read Rakoff? What is wrong with me? How can I continue to enjoy the man's radio work and never read his books?
After recovering from the aforementioned champagne binge, I did my homework and I'm looking forward to enjoying some Rakoff time soon.
In mere weeks my obvious ignorance (at least on this topic) will be put to rest. Have you read Rakoff?
