I hestitate to say anything, because then you might actually come. Which means there will be more people. Which will greatly decrease my chances of finally, finally meeting Mr. Sarvas in person. But, alas, it is such a great thing to celebrate -- writers reading from their work. Sharing. All that good stuff. Plus, as if you needed any additional incentive, it's at The Tangier. The Tangier. That's like -- super-old-school style. In the best way possible. What am I talking about?
Swink magazine is throwing a "we have a new issue coming out" party which will feature Mark Sarvas reading a bit (he promises it will be funny!) from his forthcoming novel Harry, Revised. Ann Cummins and Mishna Wolf will be reading as well. But Mark. Reading from his new book. Haven't you wondered all this time what kind of book Mark would write? I mean, you think you know the man's tastes but...what if he wrote something entirely unexpected? Which, I suspect, is the case according to my inside sources (namely, Mark). So - if you can manage it, drop on by The Tangiers tonight to listen in, Swink-style. Should be a good time...
Of course, if I really wanted to honor the man properly, I would write up my Ondaatje post from June that I promised, promised, promised him I would have up. But then Typepad ate it. Twice. Then I left my notebook in San Francisco. And, well, so much else has gotten in the way of a proper Divisadero post. Perhaps I'll have it up in time for Mark's pub date...
