As expected, I nearly botched the whole prediction thing. But hey, one out of four isn't bad. And I knew in my heart of hearts Denis Johnson would take it, but I...well...I didn't dig the book and so I left him out. That's what picks are for, right? Ugh. Oh well. It seems I'm not of litblog material anyway. For those of you who didn't follow the very funny coverage of the event at Ed's, here are the winners:
- Fiction: Denis Johnson, Tree of Smoke
- Nonfiction: Tim Weiner, Legacy of Ashes: The History of the CIA
- Poetry: Robert Hass, Time and Materials
- Young Adult: Sherman Alexie, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian
Also, go check out the coverage if you haven't. I think much of the commentary will read just as funny post event as it did in real time. While I was saddened to learn that Ed does not find Didion to be anywhere close to a genius, it is strangely comforting to know that she is just as small in person as they say.
